Dear CMS Parents, Guardians and Caregivers,

Huge thanks to Sodexo Canada, who generously donated a gingerbread cookie for every student at Christine Meikle to help us celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3. Your kindness helped make the day extra special for our students! 🎄Yum!

Just Enjoying My Cookie...YUM!

update | Music Therapy has resumed at CMS!

Last week, our Orange Wing students participated, and this week Green and Blue Wing students will enjoy their sessions. A huge thank-you to our CMS School Parent Advisory for generously funding this important program. We are grateful to continue offering this experience to our students!

Music Therapy offers so many benefits for our students, including:

  • Supporting communication growth (vocalizations, turn-taking, shared attention)
  • Enhancing emotional regulation and providing calming sensory input
  • Improving motor skills through rhythm and movement
  • Strengthening social connections and relationship-building
  • Boosting engagement and joy in learning

reminder | When to Keep Students at Home

As you know, at Meikle it can be very hard to contain germs once they make their way into the building! Many of our students and staff are medically fragile, and even a common cold can spread quickly or become more serious for some members of our community.

With that in mind, we kindly ask families and caregivers to keep students home when they are showing signs of new-onset illness or infection—fever, vomiting, diarrhea, persistent coughing (etc.) or when they simply aren’t able to participate in their regular routines. A day or two of rest helps them recover more quickly and helps us keep our classrooms healthy and running smoothly.

If you’re ever unsure whether your child should attend, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for helping us care for the wellbeing of our whole Meikle community.

update | Council and Parent Advisory Executive

Our next meeting is on Dec. 9 @ 6:00 pm online (meeting invite will be sent to whole school community the day of School Council).  From the school's end, Peter Kwasny, from homeroom 154, will share  about his classroom, and Rachel/Jason will share about this year's School Development Plan. You can read the 2025-26 School Development Plan and the 2024-25 School Improvement Results (SIRR) on our website @ https://christinemeikle.cbe.ab.ca/school .

CMS is committed to a culture of appreciation and inclusion, where students and staff can see themselves valued, respected and celebrated. The Dates of Significance calendar identifies some of the significant days of recognition and celebration within the CBE community.

Thank you, and have a magical Meikle week!
