Dear CMS Families and Caregivers,

There was something special about watching our students gather for the Olympic Canadian women’s hockey final against USA and the men’s semi-final against Finland. For our students, social interaction does not happen incidentally. It is intentionally created. Gathering together to watch the game provided authentic opportunities for connection — side-by-side seating, AAC devices used to comment on the action, shared laughter, and simply being part of something bigger.

These shared experiences matter. They build belonging. They strengthen communication. They remind us that every student deserves not just access to learning, but access to community. Go team Meikle!

reminder | Student Clothing on the Bus

As we move through these colder (and sometimes unpredictable!) winter days, please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the bus ride. While we do not anticipate issues, buses can occasionally experience delays or mechanical breakdowns. In those situations, students may need to remain on the bus for a period of time. It’s important they are dressed warmly enough to be comfortable if that happens — but not so bundled that they overheat during regular travel or while at school.

uh oh | Missed Grad Photo Day because of the Awful Weather (or other)?

Families that would still like photos done should go to the LifeTouch booking site and book an appointment. Currently they are booking for March 14th, 2026. Calgary Studio Underclass Booking Site

reminder | Illnesses at School

Cold, flu, and respiratory viruses continue to circulate in our community. If your child has a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, persistent cough, or is generally unwell, please keep them home until they are feeling better. At CMS, we serve many medically fragile students. Illness can also quickly spread and take down entire classroom teams, significantly impacting learning and supports for students.  Keeping children home when they are sick helps protect our students, staff, and families. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our community healthy.

help requested | In Search of… Pants!

We are looking for donations of joggers / jogging pants of all sizes, especially medium-XXL men’s sizes. If you have gently used pants you can share, we would greatly appreciate them! These pants will help keep our students comfortable and prepared at school.

important | Scent-Free Reminder

We currently have a student in our building with a severe, life-threatening allergy to scents.  We recognize that we cannot control every exposure; however, we are asking all families to please avoid sending students to school wearing scented products such as:

  • Perfume or cologne
  • Scented lotions
  • Strongly scented hair products
  • Heavily fragranced laundry detergents

Even small amounts of fragrance can cause a significant medical reaction. Your cooperation helps us maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students. Thank you for your understanding and care.

reminder | Save-the-Date CMS Casino Fundraiser - June 26 & 27, 2026

Please save the date for our upcoming CMS Casino Fundraiser on June 26 and 27, 2026 at Deerfoot Inn & Casino. We will need many parent volunteers for various positions like General Manager, Banker, Cashier, Chip Runner, and Count Room. Without volunteers the school runs the risk of losing this very significant fundraising opportunity. There will be sign-up details to follow soon!

At our last casino, our community raised over $73,000. These funds have directly supported:

  • Safety equipment (including two-way radios that reach all the way to Market Mall)
  • Music Therapy programming
  • Bussing for field trips
  • Sensory Room equipment and upkeep

These enhancements make a HUGE difference for our students every single day.

seeking super-volunteer | Casino Chairperson

We are currently seeking a Casino Chairperson to help lead this important fundraiser. Don't worry, we will help you! If you are interested in this role or would like more information, please reach out to our School Council Chair, Lindsay Stanford at stanfordlinds520@gmail.com. Your involvement truly matters.

Thank you, families, for all that you do. May you have a super Meikle week!

Rachel MacDonald, Principal
