School Council and Parent Society Meeting - Tuesday, January 13, 2025

We are still looking for parents and caregivers who may be interested in joining our Parent Council. This is a great opportunity to stay connected, share your voice, and support our school community. If you’re curious or would like more information, please reach out to the school—we would love to hear from you.

Food & Treats at School – Important Reminder

We truly appreciate the kindness and generosity of families who wish to bring in food or treats. However, due to the number of students with allergies and sensitivities, we ask that food not be brought directly into classrooms.

If you would like to provide food or treats for a class activity, please arrange this in advance with your students’s teacher so it can be planned and shared safely.

The Future of AAC in Alberta – From the Founder of AAC Hub Alberta

Hello,

I hope you’re well. My name is Valerie Arbeau, also known as Melody-Anne’s mom! I’m a mom to two with disabilities, and the founder of an emerging Alberta-based initiative called the AAC Alberta Hub, with a long-term vision of developing an AAC Centre of Excellence to better support families across the province. I am also co-founder of the AAC Camp Alberta and was influential in establishing the Complex Communication Network in Calgary.

I’m currently in the early research phase for the Hub and am gathering input directly from Alberta families who are navigating AAC. The goal is to ensure that any future Hub or Centre is shaped by real needs, not assumptions.

I’ve created a very brief, 6 - question survey that should take 5 minutes or less to complete. The survey focuses on:

·       What supports families find most helpful in their AAC journey

·       How they prefer to learn and access information

·       Whether they would consider using (or paying for) certain services if available

As previously mentioned, the survey takes only a few minutes to complete, so if at all possible, please complete it now. Every voice counts in shaping what is to come!

Thank you so much for being a part of shaping the future of AAC in Alberta.

May you have a super Meikle week!
