Hello CMS families,
One of our key areas of focus this year is comprehensive literacy to further enhance AAC communication opportunities. Our teachers and many of our support staff are participating in professional learning based on Jane Farrall’s Comprehensive Literacy approach.
Each day, students are engaging in three important literacy routines:
- Shared Reading
- Working with Letters and Sounds
- Writing
These routines are designed to ensure that every student has meaningful opportunities to participate, communicate and develop as a reader and writer. You can expect to receive regular literacy updates from your child’s team this year. Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher if you would like to learn more about what literacy looks like for your child.
update | CMS Communication journals
Our journals have been delayed, but we expect them to arrive soon. Communication between home and school is very important, so please continue to share relevant information with your child’s team in the meantime.
Communication journals help us understand what may be influencing your child’s day. Helpful updates might include changes in sleep, eating, health, medication, toileting, mood, regulation or home routines. Families are also encouraged to share successes, new interests, communication developments and strategies that are working well at home.
School teams will use the journals to share relevant information about your child’s learning, participation and day at school. Journals are best for routine updates; urgent health, safety or transportation information should always be communicated directly to the school.
update | Student Health Forms & Emergency Response Plans
We have also reviewed student health forms and found that several are still missing. If we require an updated form for your child, it will be sent home this week. Please complete and return it promptly so that our records and care plans remain current.
required | Annual Forms in MyCBE
Parents and guardians are asked to review and complete the required online forms for each child every school year. Even when your information has not changed, the forms must still be reviewed and submitted annually. Accurate contact, demographic, medical and authorization information helps us support students safely and communicate with families effectively.
Forms are available through Online Forms and School Registration (SchoolEngage) in your MyCBE account.
- Sign in to MyCBE and access online forms
- Learn how to create a MyCBE account

We are also getting ready to offer special lunch opportunities through Healthy Hunger. Families will be able to order and pay for participating lunches online.
You can prepare by creating or updating your Healthy Hunger account and adding your child, school and current classroom. Please wait until CMS lunch dates are posted before placing an order. More information, including menus, dates and ordering deadlines, will be shared soon.
Thank you, families, for all that you do. May you have a super Meikle week!
